The first and longest cold snap of the winter ended Wednesday when temperatures climbed above freezing in the afternoon, according to Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Kirstie Zontini.

The cold snap lasted a total of 86 hours.

Dayton dove into the deep freeze at 9:30 p.m. Saturday and wasn’t forecasted to climb above 32 degrees until Wednesday afternoon.

The Miami Valley has spent more than 80 hours subfreezing and when it finally warms up it will end up being a more than 90-hour stretch.

“Don’t get too excited though. You’ll have to ditch your hats and gloves at the end of the week for an umbrella as rain returns very Thursday night,” Zontini said.
