Clark County school districts dismissing early Tuesday -- blame the heat

Several Clark County schools will close early Tuesday because of this week's heat wave, school officials announced Monday.

Northeastern Local School District officials said Monday night in a Facebook public post the elementary grades (PK-5) will dismiss at 1 p.m. The high school will dismiss at 2 p.m. Middle school (grades 6 through 8) will dismiss at 2:10 p.m.

Greenon Local School District schools will dismiss two hours early, officials announced via Facebook.

In the Clark-Shawnee Local School District, all buildings will dismiss 90 minutes early. All outdoor athletic events will take place as scheduled. All indoor practices are canceled. High school volleyball will be moved to Urbana, with a 5:30 p.m. start time. Outdoor practices will take place no earlier than 5 p.m.

According to WHIO-TV Chief Meteorologist Eric Elwell, the forecast for Tuesday calls for more hot and humid weather with temperatures reaching 90 degrees, with the heat index in the upper 90s at times.
