1 wounded, 1 sought in exchange of gunfire in Moorefield Twp., Clark County

UPDATE @ 8:33 p.m.: Deputies are looking for a gunman who wounded a man in an apparent exchange of gunfire at a house on Mechanicsburg Road in Moorefield Twp., Clark County Sheriff's Lt. Kris Shultz said.

The initial investigation shows that the gunman approached the house in an aggressive manner and fired on people who were in the house, wounding a male believed to be in his 20s or 30s.

Someone from the house, who was not hit by gunfire, returned fire, he said. Investigators don’t believe the aggressor was hit in the exchange.

Lt. Shultz said the shooting is being characterized as defensive.

The person wounded has been taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center for an injury not believed to be life threatening, the lieutenant said.

Deputies went to an apartment complex on East Home Road to look for the suspect and interview potential witnesses. They also went to an area around Buck Creek Park to look for evidence, Shultz said.

Clark County Sheriff's investigators are on the scene of a shooting in the 3100 block of Mechanicsburg Road.

Deputies and a medic unit were dispatched just after 6:30 p.m. on a report of shots fired. We're working to learn more and we'll update this developing report.
