Police: Child, 9, rode bike into traffic when car hit him in Springfield

UPDATE @ 9:50 p.m.: The child on the bicycle hit by a car in Springfield is a 9-year-old boy who was not wearing a helmet when he rode into oncoming traffic on North Murray Street, police said.

He suffered a head injury in the accident reported just after 7:30 p.m. His condition is not known, police said.

The driver was not injured.

Murray remains shut down, between Stanton and East Madison avenues, until further notice as police continue their investigation.

INITIAL REPORT

A child reportedly on a bicycle has been taken to Dayton Children's Hospital after being struck by a vehicle in Springfield.

Police tell us the child, believed to be a 10-year-old boy, was crossing the street on his bike when he was hit sometime after 8 p.m.

The incident occurred at North Murray Street and East Madison Avenue, according to police.

We're working to learn more about the incident and the child's condition.
