Woman rescues 3-year-old boy from backyard pool in near drowning in Huber Heights

HUBER HEIGHTS — A woman rescued a 3-year-old boy from the bottom of a backyard swimming pool during a Fourth of July pool party at her aunt’s home in Huber Heights.

“I was in the pool with an infant and seen something at the bottom that caught my eye, and it was actually my little cousin,” Leeanna Crabtree said. “We’re not sure how he had gotten in the pool without his life jacket, but he did.

“I actually took my foot, because I had an infant in this hand, and I actually took my foot and pulled him up by his swim trunks and grabbed him and yelled and got him over to the side,” Crabtree said.

Crews were dispatched around 2:40 p.m. to the home in the 6400 block of Prairie Creek Court, according to dispatchers.

Family members performed CPR before medics arrived, and he was awake and alert by the time he left for Dayton Children’s Hospital.

“He was pretty blue when we got him out,” Crabtree said. “It was the scariest thing I’ve ever been through.”

The boy’s condition wasn’t available but family members said he will be OK.
