Change in state order allows for dancing at weddings, proms

While brides pick out their linens, centerpieces, and table settings, they can now plan for bigger celebrations, after the state changed a health order.

A & S Party Rental is looking forward to a busy year of events, compared to last year when state orders capped guest lists, required social distancing, and enforced curfews.

“It’s definitely been a wild ride for everyone,” Lindsey Cornett, an account executive for the company said.

Now, the business is getting ready for a full schedule, helped in part by a change in state policy.

Last week, Gov. DeWine announced an end to the 300 person limit for wedding receptions, funeral repasts, proms, and other events.

The amended order didn’t mention dancing. However, News Center 7 reached out to the Ohio Department of Health for clarification. A spokesperson said the March 2nd order now allows for dancing. This changes a November order which prohibited dancing.

“Now we have one of these major, major barriers lifted,” Kathy Piech-Lukas said.

She has been a wedding planner for 17 years.

“Taking that dancing restriction away is one of the top two reasons why couples were postponing their weddings so often in 2020,” Piech-Lukas said.

She said the state’s mask order was another reason couples decided to skip 2020 weddings.

The mask order is still in place, and guests will still have to wear them on the dance floor.

Nevertheless, Cornett said this is an improvement.

“Since that announcement, we’ve definitely picked up as far as the numbers of parties increasing,” Cornett said.

ODH said it is working on developing further guidance for planning events.
