Child found wandering on busy Centerville street, no charges expected

CENTERVILLE — A child able to escape over a gate blocking an opened patio door was found wandering alone on Bigger Road near Thomas Paine Parkway, but police said no charges are expected in the case.

Officers responded to the area around 11:15 a.m. after several drivers stopped to help the 2-year-old boy.

“We just found a child walking in the middle of the road,” a 911 caller said.  “We’re right in front of these apartments.”

By the time police arrived, the boy’s mother also was at the scene.

Police said the incident was the first encounter the family had ever had with the department.

The child was believed to be alone for about four minutes before police and his mother arrived.

Police said the circumstances of this case did not warrant them pursuing any charges against the boy’s mother.
