CENTERVILLE — Three Centerville police officers were awarded Monday for their “brave actions” during an apartment fire on North Main Street in October.
Officers Anthony Green, Marcus Loel and Amanda Reyes were recognized during Monday’s city council meeting with distinguished service awards.
According to the city, officers were alerted that a resident at the apartment was unaccounted for when they responded and forced a door open to make it into the smoke-filled building.
“The officers joined together and pulled the subject to safety outside the apartment into the hallway. At that point, the smoke was overwhelming, forcing the officers to exit the building,” according to the award citation.
Once firefighters arrived on scene, the officers’ actions allowed paramedics to quickly remove the victim from the building to receive medical attention, the city said.
“If it was not for the brave actions of Officers Green, Loel and Reyes, the subject would not have been located and removed to safety as quickly as he was and likely would have perished in the fire,” according to the citation.
The state fire marshal’s office said a cause of the fire on Oct. 24 was unable to be determined, due to the amount of damage.
The fire was not considered suspicious.
