Cars set on fire in Harrison Township

HARRISON TOWNSHIP — The Montgomery County Sheriff Office is investigating a string of car break-ins in Harrison Township, in which five vehicles were set on fire.

Early Friday morning residents across Oneida and Ome drives, as well as Embury Road, woke up to the sounds of fire and gas tanks exploding when five vehicles were set on fire.

Two additional vehicles were broken into and had items stolen from them.

Thousands of dollars of damage was done to the vehicles and deputies say it was all the doing of one person, a man under the age of 30.

“I think it was an opportunity crime,” says Dave Parin, Captain of the Montgomery County Sheriff Office. “I believe the individual involved was out looking for items and then looking to cover his tracks with the fires.”

Parin does not believe the victims were targeted, but they all had something in common: their vehicles were unlocked.

“We do ask the public to be mindful of their vehicles and lock their doors to prevent crimes of opportunities such as this from occurring,” says Parin.
