Man suffers ‘serious head trauma’ after crashing motorized bicycle in Miami County

UPDATE @ 11:16 a.m. (Oct. 22):

A Covington man, seriously injured in an accident Sunday afternoon in Piqua, is fighting for his life.

A.J. Niesley, 30, is listed in critical condition in the intensive unit at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

He crashed what police described as a “motorized bicycle” Sunday afternoon around 2:45 p.m. in the 1400 block of Clark Avenue in Piqua.

Police say Niesley suffered “traumatic head injuries.” He was flown to Miami Valley abroad a CareFlight medical helicopter.

UPDATE @ 3:21 p.m. (Oct. 21):

A man suffered “serious head trauma” after he wrecked his motorized bicycle in Piqua, said Officer Jeremy Weber with the Piqua Police Department.

The man was taken to Upper Valley Medical Center by ambulance then flown to Miami Valley Hospital, Weber said.

A 911 caller thought the man had been struck by another vehicle, but there was no evidence of another vehicle involved, Weber said.

It’s not clear what caused the man to crash.

CareFlight is on standby to respond to a pedestrian strike in Piqua.

Emergency crews responded to the 1400 block of Clark Avenue around 2:45 p.m., according to Miami County dispatchers.

It’s unknown what caused the accident. We are working to learn more.
