Body found in wooded area in Dayton identified

UPDATE@12:48 p.m.

The body found has been identified as Chevy Kirby, the Montgomery County Coroner’s office said, adding that the preliminary cause of death has not been determined.

UPDATE @ 9:45 p.m. An autopsy is planned for the body found in the woods off South Gettysburg Avenue, a coroner’s investigator said.

The body is that of a male, the investigator said, but no other information is available about the male or what may have happened to him.

INITIAL REPORT  05/31/17

A body found in a wooded area along South Gettysburg Avenue has been taken to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office to ascertain the person’s identity. 

Dayton police tell us a passer-by discovered the body off the 1900 block of South Gettysburg, near the St. Vincent De Paul Gateway Shelter for Men, 1931 S. Gettysburg Ave. 

The sergeant on scene said police and fire crews believe the body may be that of an overdose victim. Police and a medic unit were dispatched sometime after 5 p.m.
