School principal and CEO Blane Collison announced a $2 million donation by Chester and Stephanie Yeager to Fenwick will be used to replace the current grass field stadium with a new turf stadium, the school announced Friday.

“The installation of a synthetic turf field will greatly enhance the safety and playing experience of our student-athletes and will allow us an athletic facility no longer impacted by weather conditions,” said Collison.

The announcement was made at a school pep rally Friday to begin the spring sports season.

“Having a turf field will allow our student-athletes to train with ideal conditions year-round and give them the ability to compete on a premier playing surface,” said Tyler Miller, Bishop Fenwick Athletic Director. “This field will serve all the students at Fenwick, not just athletes,”

Construction of the new field is scheduled for completion on September 1 and arrangements are being made to accommodate the student-athletes during the construction, the school said.

“We are very excited for our programs to be able to compete on artificial turf this upcoming fall season,” said Miller. “Go Falcons!”

They said there should be very little disruption to the school’s community as the bulk of the construction will take place during the summer months.
