An annual garage sale taking place in Beavercreek is doing something special this year, with all its proceeds going to help area tornado victims.

A Beavercreek family is putting a new twist on a yearly garage sale.

This year, proceeds will help several families directly affected by the Memorial Day tornadoes.

News Center 7’s Monica Castro was in Beavercreek, talking to the family about how the sale turned out.

Kathleen Riddle set up her sale Thursday morning. Many of the items have been donated, and right now, she’s raised close to $1,000. But this year Riddle won’t be pocketing the extra cash.

“I thought maybe this year we could donate towards tornado victims,” she said.

Proceeds will go to help a dozen families Riddle knows or has met through social media.

“I’m up to 12 families. I started with seven that I knew personally and I’ve picked up a couple along the way that were on the Beavercreek Tornado Network Facebook page. Just individuals who lost something or need something,” Riddle said.

For those hunting for treasures ...

“I found a mirror,” one shopper, Michelle from Beavercreek, said.

Their dollars will go to someone in need.

“It is awesome. It is absolutely awesome,” said Michelle, who declined to give her last name.

While the yard signs soon will be removed after Saturday, Riddle’s plans to help raise money will continue.

“I’ve asked them to give me a wish list of things that they need in the future, as well as things they will need later on down the road,” she said.

In addition to profits from sales, Riddle said she’s had a few people just drop off monetary donations.
