Smoking blamed for Dayton house fire, arson investigator determines

UPDATE @ 11:40 p.m.: Smoking is to blame for the house fire on Elliott Avenue that has displaced three occupants, a Dayton arson investigator said.

The occupants have made living arrangements because they cannot go back into the home, the investigator said.

The fire is not believed to be suspicious, the investigator said.

He could not yet estimate the dollar loss on the structure or its contents.

INITIAL REPORT

An arson investigator has been called to a house fire in the 4400 block of Elliott Avenue, near Hearthstone Drive.

Dayton crews were dispatched just before 10 p.m. on a report of a possible structure fire in a one-story, single-family residence.

All of the occupants were able to get out without injury, we're hearing. The fire was deemed under control about 10:20 p.m., fire officials said.
