A traffic stop Tuesday afternoon in I-75 North in Shelby County ended in the arrest of two men accused on drug charges involving more than 1,000 suspected Oxycontin pills, cocaine, marijuana and cash, according to the Sidney Police Department.
Valentin Castro Lopez, 34, and Jesizael Carrillo Lugo, 30, remain in the Shelby County Jail on a felony charge of trafficking, Sidney police Sgt. Martin said in a prepared statement. Cash bond for each man is $20,091, according to the online jail record.
A police officer noticed a vehicle without a front license plate headed north on the interstate about 1:40 p.m. The officer, who was not identified by name, ran the registration from the vehicle’s rear and learned the registered owner’s license had been canceled.
After pulling the vehicle over, the officer said he could smell raw marijuana and asked for a backup unit. Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Sidney police detectives arrived and searched the vehicle.
They found 1,633 suspected Oxycontin pills, a baggy of suspected cocaine, a marijuana blunt, and $3,502 in cash. The vehicle has been seized and is in police custody.
