Area Rumpke driver awarded for safe driving

An area Rumpke trash truck driver is being honored for years of safe driving and reliability.

Tim Taber, a driver with Rumpke for 19 years, was celebrated Thursday afternoon at the company’s transfer station, on Jaysville-St. Johns Road, near Greenville.

The Richmond, Ind., resident will be honored in late May in New Orleans as the national driver of the year.

According to Rumpke, Taber has logged approximately 50,000 miles a year. He makes about 120 stops a day five days a week, year round. He hasn’t been involved in an accident in 19 years.

The Environmental Industry Associations bestows the national award.

EIA is the trade association that represents the private sector solid waste and recycling industry through its two sub-associations, the National Solid Wastes Management Association and the Waste Equipment Technology Association.
