Area LGBT nonprofit latest victim of catalytic converter thefts, expected to impact food deliveries

DAYTON — Dayton non-profit organization “Have a Gay Day” is having to set back their food delivery service after they said a catalytic converter was stolen from their van.

Have a Gay Day works to “create a safe environment for the purpose of equality, education, and support of the LGBT community and their allies.”

The nonprofit located on Needmore Road also operates as a food pantry on Sundays and delivers food to those in need in Montgomery County.

But a recent event has caused them to delay this service.

Friday night, the organization said someone jacked up the van they use for food deliveries and stole the catalytic converter.

“The police were immediately informed, and a report was filed. We have video of the person we believe is responsible and will be turning that over to the police Monday,” a spokesperson for the nonprofit said.

The spokesperson said it is not known yet how big of an impact this will have, as they don’t know how long repairs will take.

“We are hoping this only impacts us for a few days. It’s unfortunate,” the spokesperson said.

The nonprofit said they are hoping to get a van rental Monday to help with food pickups, but are also reaching out to see if anyone in the community has a temporary transit van while repairs happen.
