American Red Cross in ‘urgent need’ of blood ahead of holiday

The American Red Cross is urging donors to give blood ahead of the Fourth of July holiday.

The organization said it typically sees a 21 percent drop in blood donations during holiday weeks.

Since Fourth of July fireworks are known to cause injuries, blood donations are needed.

The Red Cross said blood does have a shelf life so consistent donations are always needed.
