Each of the suspects are charged with conspiring to kidnap the victim, a federal crime punishable by up to life in prison.

According to the unsealed indictment, the suspects are accused of kidnapping and abducting Casey at gunpoint on July 7, 2019.

“Mr. Casey was taken to one of the defendant’s homes, where he was held against his will and beaten with a baseball bat. Another defendant made ransom demands of the victim’s family,” federal prosecutors said in a release.

Casey was able to escape the next day, but was recaptured and forced into one of the suspect’s minivan, when he was attacked again, prosecutors said.

“It is alleged Mr. Casey ultimately died as a result of the defendants' actions,” prosecutors said.

Reese was previously charged with murder in a case involving Casey’s death that is being prosecuted at the local level.
