4-year-old killed in Wayne County crash

WAYNE COUNTY — A 4-year-old, who was among nine people hurt in a crash at the intersection of U.S. 40 and Round Barn Road, has died, according to Wayne County Sheriff Randy Retter.

David Kirkendall, 4, died on Sunday.

“This unthinkable tragedy marks the sixth death of a child in Wayne County as a result of accidents in the month of July,” Retter said.

The crash happened Thursday night around 7:40 p.m. and involved three vehicles.

A van, driven by David Kirdkendall-Hollingsworth, 23, of Cambridge City, was driving west on U.S. 40 and was attempting to turn left in a convenience store parking lot when the crash happened. Another vehicle going east tried to avoid the crash, but couldn’t and his vehicle also hit a third vehicle during the wreck.

The other people hurt in the crash suffered minor injuries:
