Springfield man hit, killed while walking across I-70 in Clark County

35-year-old man killed walking on I-70 in Clark County Wednesday night

SPRINGFIELD TWP., Clark County — A Springfield man was hit by a vehicle and died from his injuries while walking across I-70 in Clark County late Wednesday night, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported in the westbound lanes of I-70, near the state Route 72 exit, around 10:50 p.m. Wednesday.

Sean Compton, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene after he was hit by an SUV that was traveling west, state troopers said in a media release.

The SUV’s driver, Alena Johnson, 24, from Dayton, was traveling home after picking up family members from the Columbus airport.

Potential factors in the crash were not released, however state troopers said the crash happened just before the weather changed from light rain to snow.

The left lane of Interstate 70 going westbound was closed for around two hours during the investigation.

No one in the SUV was injured in the crash.
