Local High School student works to change vaccine hesitancy

CENTERVILLE — Centerville High School senior, Yash Agarwal, has been working to address COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy in Montgomery County.

Agarwal designed and distributed brochures on the COVID-19 vaccine to medical practices and businesses in many communities, according to a news release.

He also presented and spoke about vaccines at churches, specifically ones in small Black communities.

“My parents immigrated from India at the turn of the century, leaving behind a large family to start a new life here in America. With the onset of the pandemic, I developed a more global perspective on the COVID-19 crisis as I saw the resistance to universal masking and vaccination in both countries,” Agarwal said in the release.

The recent second wave, which devastated India, highlighted the privilege Americans have with the availability of the vaccine for Agarwal.

“I find the work I do extremely important because as Americans we still have that privilege,” Agarwal said.
