“Adventure Express” at Kings Island in Mason was evacuated Sunday afternoon due to reported “technical difficulties,” according a passenger on the ride.

The Kings Island Ride “Adventure Express” was evacuated earlier this afternoon due to a “mechanical problem,” according to a park spokesman.

Guests from one of the trains on the ride were escorted off due to the problem, said Don Helbig, Kings Island spokesman.

He said once the ride’s computer detects a problem it can stop the ride.

“If it does stop, you have to reboot the system and you can’t have the system run through its cycle with guests on it,” Helbig said.

The ride was operational several minutes after guests were escorted off, he said.

The ride stopped just after 3 p.m. Sunday and passengers waited about 15 to 20 minutes before being let off the ride, according to one park guest who was stuck on the ride.

“Adventure Express” is a roller coaster with a mining theme and opened at the park in 1991.

This is the second time a ride at the amusement park in Warren County was closed unexpectedly.

On May 21, “The Beast” was evacuated while climbing its second lift hill and riders waited about 10 minutes before being escorted off the ride. That ride stopped when a device on the coaster intended to keep cars separated detected a problem.

Guests stuck on the ride Sunday received a complimentary ride ticket to enter the exit of any one ride in the park.
