MIDDLETOWN — Middletown police are continuing to investigate the shooting of a man Wednesday on Forest Avenue.
At about 1:30 p.m., dispatchers received a call from an man screaming in pain and saying he had been “shot or something” in the leg.
When officers arrived they found a 31-year-old man lying on the floor of an upstairs apartment, according to the police report. The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a leg wound.
When dispatchers asked the man who shot him, he said he didn’t know.
The victim said he was in the alley behind his house when he was shot
“I crawled inside … I am laying on the floor. I am in severe pain,” he told dispatchers during the 911 call.
The man said he was not fighting with anyone and didn’t see or hear anything.
Dispatchers then asked to speak with the girlfriend of the victim, who said she also did not hear anything.
“He had literally just walked outside,” the woman said.
The woman told dispatchers she was sure it was a gunshot that wounded her boyfriend.
“You can see the bullet,” she said.
The victim’s name was not released Thursday due to the ongoing investigation, according to Middletown Police Sgt. Malcolm Tipton.
Police and the crime scene unit were at the home for several hours Wednesday and roped off the house and a corner yard while they investigated.
A distraught woman ran up to the house at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday screaming and crying. A police officer there assured her that her sister, who lived in the residence, was safe.
Tipton said several people have been questioned by detectives about the shooting, including the victim, but no arrests have been made.
