Giving your pet a safe place to go if they feel anxious or scared can allow them to deal with having a generous amount of people around the house, according to the Marketing and PR Manager for Humane Society of Greater Dayton.

Set a room aside with familiar items to your pet such as their bed, toys, food or water to keep them comfortable, the spokesperson said in a release shared with News Center 7.

When sneaking a piece of turkey or ham to your pet, it is crucial to make sure they are boneless and full cooked, the spokesperson said. Small bones become a choking hazard for pets by splintering in your pets digestive tract, leading to an emergency vet visit.

Spices such as sage or nutmeg can upset your pets stomach if eaten in large quantities, or cause seizures and central nervous system problems in dogs, the spokesperson said. Cats are very sensitive to the essential oils found in sage.

If your pet gets a hold of raw dough, call your vet immediately, according to the spokesperson. When a pet eats raw dough, their natural body temperature causes the dough to rise in their stomachs leading to severe abdominal pain, bloating and even vomiting.

Keep in mind to not overindulge your animals, the spokesperson said. We all love to give our pets sweet treats, but too much of those treats could lead to an upset stomach or diarrhea.

It is important to make sure your pet has identification at all times such as an ID tag on their collar with contact information or a microchip in case their collar breaks away, the spokesperson said.
