2 drivers taken to hospital after Ohio 4 crash in Fairfield

Two people were transported to area hospitals after the multi-vehicle crash.

UPDATE @ 5:09 p.m.:

Dixie Highway has now re-opened. The accident remains under investigation.

A black Dodge Avenger was traveling southbound on Dixie Highway when a black Toyota Celica attempted to turn north from a private driveway when the accident occurred.

Police Officer Doug Day said it’s uncertain which vehicle is at fault as the crash, which occurred at 3:23 p.m. today, is still under investigation.

The driver of the Toyota was flown to University Hospital in Cincinnati by medical helicopter and the driver of the Dodge was transported to Mercy Hospital-Fairfield by ambulance.

Injuries and the identities of the two motorists are unknown at this time, but Day confirmed the person flown to the hospital is a male. There were no other occupants in either vehicle, Day said.

Traffic is still blocked at the accident site and motorists are advised to find an alternate route.

UPDATE @ 4:46 p.m.: 

City officials confirm there are two vehicles involved in the crash, and one person was taken to University Hospital in Cincinnati by medical helicopter.

A medical helicopter has landed on Dixie Highway in Fairfield.

Emergency crews are in the process of extricating one person from a multi-vehicle crash.

City officials say they don’t know how long the road will be shut down.

To go around the accident:

  • motorists north of the accident are advised to take Mack Road (westbound traffic) or Muhlhauser Road (eastbound traffic)
  • motorists south of the accident are advised to take Interstate 275 East to Princeton Pike or Interstate 275 West to Winton Road

FIRST REPORT:

A medical helicopter has been dispatched to the 7300 block of Dixie Highway following a multi-vehicle crash.

Dispatchers say the road has been closed in both directions in front of Tri-County Assembly of God and there is a person trapped in one of the vehicles.

The accident happened at 3:23 p.m.

Multiple jurisdictions have responded from Butler and Hamilton counties.

One person was killed and the suspect is dead after a gunman shot 14 people in Toronto’s Greektown neighborhood Sunday, police said. A child was among the injured, police said.

Here are the latest updates:

Update 2:01 a.m. EDT July 23: Toronto police Chief Mark Saunders said the child in critical condition is an 8- or 9-year-old girl, the Washington Post reported. He described the victim who was killed as a “young lady,” according to The Associated Press.

No further information about the condition of the victims was immediately available.

Saunders said the shooter used a handgun in the rampage and was killed after exchanging gunfire with officers. The shooting did not appear to be random, Saunders said.

One witness, John Tulloch, said he heard as many as 30 gunshots, the AP reported.

A video circulating on Twitter appeared to capture the sound of gunfire.

Update 1:06 a.m. EDT July 23: The child who was shot, a young girl, is currently in critical condition, according to Toronto police.

Police say it is “too early to say whether the shooting is terrorism,” The Associated Press reported.

One city official, Councillor Paula Fletcher, said the shooting was not gang-related. Fletcher and Councillor Mary Fragedakis also said the gunman was emotionally disturbed.

Some Ritz products are being voluntarily recalled due to the potential presence of salmonella.

Mondelez Global LLC announced the voluntary recall in the United States, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands Saturday.

The affected products are some Ritz Cracker Sandwiches and Ritz Bits products. According to a news release, the products contain whey powder as an ingredient, and the whey powder supplier has recalled the ingredient due to potential salmonella.

Salmonella infection can lead to death for young children, frail people, elderly people and others with weakened immune systems, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Symptoms of infection include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps.

  • Ritz Bits Cheese, 30 pack carton, best when used by dates 3/3/19 through 4/13/19.
  • Ritz Bits Cheese, 1.5 ounce, best when used by dates 3/8/19 through 4/13/19.
  • Ritz Bits Cheese, 3 ounce Go Packs, best when used by dates 3/7/19 through 4/12/19.
  • Ritz Cheese Cracker Sandwiches, 10.8 ounces, best when used by dates 1/14/19 through 2/11/19.
  • Ritz Cheese Cracker Sandwiches, 1.35 ounces, best when used by dates 1/14/19 through 2/11/19.
  • Ritz Bacon Cracker Sandwiches With Cheese, 10.8 ounces, best when used by dates 2/5/19 through 2/6/19.

TOMORROW: Tuesday will be very similar to Monday with mostly cloudy skies and the slight chance for a few passing showers, mainly in the afternoon. Highs for the day around 80 degrees and muggy.
