COVINGTON, Ky. — A pedestrian is dead after a motorist hit and dragged that person for almost three miles in the windshield of a car Thursday morning, according to our news partner WCPO-TV in Cincinnati.
Fort Wright, Ky. dispatchers received a call just before 1 a.m. about a pedestrian spotted walking along the northbound Interstate 71/75 ramp near Kyles Lane, WCPO reports. But responding officers didn't see anybody when they responded.
Ten minutes later, police responded to a Speedway gas station just off the Fifth Street exit, where the driver had finally come to a stop after driving a couple miles with that person's body stuck in the passenger side of the windshield, according to WCPO.
An officer says they found the victim's leg in the roadway about 150 yards away from the scene.
Witness Shawna Hudson said she flagged down a police officer after following the black car up I-71/75 and stopping near the Speedway. She said she couldn't believe it and thought someone was pulling a prank.
“We just happened to get behind him when he had his flashers on and noticed that something was hanging from his car just flapping around, hitting against the ground," Hudson said, noting she initially thought it perhaps plastic sheeting or a rug. "I said, 'That can't be real. That has to be a sick joke.'"
The highway reopened around 5:35 a.m.
