DaytonLIVE warns against scalpers for Schuster Center events

DAYTON, Ohio — A growing problem at local boxes continues to heat up as scalpers are doing all they can to scam consumers.

Tickets for Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen and CATS are all being sold at the Schuster Performing Arts Center box office. However, scalpers are selling tickets to the same shows that are not even available at the Schuster box office yet and they are being sold at a much higher price then what can be found on a reputable site.

Lisa Japs, VP of Ticketing and Licensing for DaytonLIVE, said, “They’re for sure overcharging and taking advantage of people that don’t realized that they’re not buying directly from the menu.”

Japs said bogus sites and the DaytonLIVE site have very close similarities.

“They use company names and things like that, so they are basically trying to trick people to think this is how the tickets are and not realizing that they’re paying massive up-charges on tickets,” Japs said.

Tickets that the box office may not be selling yet. “They’re tickets that we’re planning to sell for $50-$60. They’re selling them for $300 to $480,” she said.

After spending that amount of cash, some people still end up at the box office only to sadly be turned away.

Japs said, “If they’re looking anywhere other than DaytonLIVE.org, that is not a reputable site. We are the only authorized sellers in the Schuster Center.”

And, if nothing else, it’s always good to read the fine print before purchasing a ticket.

“Always read. Most of these companies, somewhere in their tiny print at the bottom of the screen will disclose they are not associated with the venue so keep your eyes open for that,” Japs said.

Tickets for their major products go on sell tomorrow and you can find those at DaytonLIVE.org. You can also call the box office for more information about ticket costs and availability.
