Dayton Police on scene of a fatal pedestrian strike

DAYTON — UPDATE @ 9:50 a.m.:

Joseph Garrett, 39, of Trotwood has been identified as the man killed in a pedestrian crash on Salem Avenue and Free Pike in Dayton late Thursday night, according to Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger.

Garrett’s cause of death remains under investigation, Harshbarger said.

One person is dead after police and medics were called to a reported pedestrian strike near Salem Avenue and Free Pike late Thursday night.

Units were called to the intersection around 11 p.m. after the crash was reported.

A Montgomery County Coroner’s Office investigator was called to the scene after the crash, according to investigators.

The identity of the victim was not released, pending notification of family and further investigation by the coroner’s office.

Dayton police did not release additional information about the crash investigation.
