Suspect in apparent kidnapping, assault arrested after police pursuit ends in Dayton with a crash

DAYTON — UPDATE @ 7:35 p.m.: A male suspected in an apparent kidnapping and assault in Dayton on Friday was arrested after a police pursuit that ended in a multiple-vehicle crash.

Dayton police were dispatched Friday morning to the 1000 block of East Third Street on the report of an apparent kidnapping, assault and robbery. The suspect was not there when officers arrived, but the initial investigation revealed he might be in Harrison Twp.

Before police could get to the Harrison Twp. address, the suspect fled in a stolen vehicle. Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies initiated the pursuit that continued into Dayton, where a Dayton officer took over.

The pursuit lasted several minutes in the Old North Dayton area. Police made the apprehension about 11:35 a.m. at Valley Street and Stanley Avenue near Dayton Children’s Hospital, where the suspect ran a red light and hit two other vehicles.

No one involved in the crash had to be taken to a hospital.

Dayton detectives are continuing the investigation.
