Pedestrian says they were hit by vehicle being pursued by deputies in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — A pedestrian has been taken to a Springfield hospital after they said they were hit by a vehicle being pursued by deputies moments before the crash, according to initial reports.

The crash involving the pedestrian was reported around 12:30 p.m. on South Light Street near West Pleasant Street in Springfield. Initial reports indicate the pedestrian suffered a leg injury and was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center for treatment however their condition was not immediately known.

Moments before the crash, deputies reported they were pursuing the vehicle but had called off the chase.

Deputies are searching the area of Oakleaf and Allison avenues where the vehicle in the pursuit has been located, however the suspected driver remains on the run.

Deputies said the pursuit was a result of a narcotics investigation but additional details about the investigation were not released.

Investigators added they are aware of the report by the person hit by the car but deputies said they are still working to determine if the car suspected in the pursuit was the one that hit the victim.
