The juvenile was staying at a family friend’s house and took the keys to a car after people had gone to bed, investigators told News Center 7′s James Rider.

An officer saw the car traveling the wrong way on a one-way street Monday morning, Sgt. Christopher Burmeister said in a media release. The officer then started a pursuit after the driver didn’t stop and drove off “in a reckless manner,” Burmeister said.

During the pursuit, the driver of the car slammed into two houses on Turner Drive, causing significant damage to one of the structures, police said. After hitting the houses, several vehicles were also hit on Lynn Street before the car came to a stop. Police were then able to take the juvenile suspect into custody after the vehicle stopped, Burmeister said.

No injuries were reported in the incident and only damage to property was reported during the pursuit and crashes.

Sidney police said they have a policy not to pursue vehicles driven by an underage person like in this incident. However police said they did not know a 10-year-old was the driver of the car until after the pursuit had ended, investigators said.

One of the two houses damaged was deemed not fit to live in following an inspection completed today, police said. That house had been recently sold and a final inspection before the sale was set for Friday.

The second house hit in the incident sustained only minimal damage.

Additional details were not released.
