Man arrested on attempted murder charge, accused of firing shot at his mother

FAIRBORN — Fairborn police arrested a 36-year-old man Monday on a preliminary charge of attempted murder after he allegedly fired a shot in the direction of his mother, according to a statement from Fairborn police.

Robert M. Grooms remains booked in the Fairborn City Jail Tuesday on preliminary charges of felonious assault and attempted murder, according to online jail records.

Police were dispatched to an apartment in the 200 block of East Main Street around 2:45 p.m. after Grooms’ mother reported an incident where she reported a shot was fired at her.

Grooms left the scene in a green Jeep however police located it, and he surrendered to officers.

The woman suffered minor injuries in the incident.

Detectives are planning to present charges in the case to the Greene County Prosecutor in the coming days, a police spokesperson told News Center 7.
