Man arrested after smashing into Fairborn dollar store

FAIRBORN — One person was arrested by Fairborn police after breaking into a dollar store and briefly refused to come out, according to investigators.

Officers were called to the Family Dollar location at 25 East Dayton Yellow Springs Road around 8 a.m. after receiving reports of a person who broke into the store, Fairborn police Sgt. Bill Titley told News Center 7.

Police found the glass front door to the business was shattered and officers surrounded the store.

The suspect, who was not identified, tried to escape through the back door, but was met by police. The suspected burglar was hit with two forms of less-lethal rounds by police, bean bag rounds and a Taser, before he was taken into custody, Titley said.

The suspect was checked out by medics and was treated and released.

The break-in was near two large Fairborn schools but police said they were in contact with the school resource officers and students were not in danger, according to Titley.

Family Dollar is currently closed. It was not known when the store was expected to reopen.

Additional details were not released.
