BEAVERCREEK — UPDATE @ 10:51 p.m.: Xenia police are continuing to look for a second suspect and second stolen vehicle involved in an afternoon armed robbery of two people at an apartment building on Stelton Road.
The arrest of the one suspect came after a brief foot chase that began when that suspect abandoned a disabled stolen vehicle in the middle of U.S. 35 and tried to carjack another motorist, Xenia police said in a prepared statement.
The entire incident began about 2:27 p.m., when police were dispatched on a report that two victims had been robbed of cash and two vehicles at gunpoint in an apartment building at 341 Stelton.
Greene County sheriff’s deputies and Beavercreek police officers located one of the stolen vehicles — based on a description sent to area law enforcement agencies — on U.S. 35 West near Orchard Lane.
The suspect who ended up being captured sped off and prompted a pursuit that ended on U.S. 35, just east of North Fairfield Road, when the suspect drove over spiked sticks used to deflate tires. That led to the foot chase, the arrest and the confiscation of two handguns. That suspect is being detained in jail pending the filing of formal charges.
Police said the suspect who eluded capture was last seen in a stolen silver, 2005 four-door Chevrolet Impala bearing license plates GGH9407.
UPDATE @ 3:12 p.m.: Multiple police and sheriff’s cruisers are lined up on U.S. 35 in Beavercreek, where a pursuit has ended.
