DAYTON — A woman police suspect was driving while intoxicated ended up going to the hospital early Friday morning when police say she resisted being handcuffed and fell on some ice.
A police officer first spotted the woman when her van was stuck on a concrete parking divider in the lot of Sammy’s Food Mart on South Smithville Road, according to a Dayton Police report.
The driver was able to get the van loose and drove onto Watervliet Avenue, but was reportedly driving erratically.
When the officer pulled the van over, the woman driving tried to get out and resisted the officer’s efforts to handcuff her, according to the report. At some point she reportedly slipped on some ice and snow and fell, hitting her face and breaking her tooth.
She stated she “should never have been driving,” according to the report and the officer reported that she smelled of alcohol. She was taken to Miami Valley Hospital and given a summons to appear in court.
