Roger Goodell: 'We had not seen' video inside elevator

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, in an exclusive interview with CBS broadcast Tuesday evening, said he and his investigators "assumed" there was a second videotape showing the Ray Rice punch out of his fiance but never saw it.

"Well, we had not seen any videotape of what occurred in the elevator. We assumed that there was a video," Goodell told the interviewer, Norah O'Donnell.

Excerpts of the interview aired during the CBS Evening News. The complete interview airs Wednesday on CBS This Morning.

TMZ Sports on Monday released the video of Rice knocking out his then-fiancee, Janay Palmer, with one punch in February. He and Palmer are now married.

The NFL on Tuesday suspended Rice indefinitely and the Baltimore Ravens terminated his contract. Also Tuesday, Nike officials announced the company will cut ties with Rice.

"We asked for the video," Goodell said. "We asked for anything that was pertinent. But we were never granted that opportunity."
