Public park shooting victim identified

A man who was critically injured in a shooting at a public park has refused to provide police information about what happened, according to Springfield police.

The incident occurred at Davey Moore Park, 623 Yellow Springs Drive, on Sunday.

Aaron Howard, 30, of Springfield, was identified as the victim, according to a police report. He was found lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound in his back, said Sgt. David Emmel.

He was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center, and was then flown by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital. He has since been released from the hospital.

Police interviewed multiple witnesses and are working to locate the shooter.

Emmel said as far as incidents of crime, Davey Moore Park is no worse than any other public park in the Springfield area.

"I'm not aware of a whole lot of crime, particularly like this one, that takes place here," he said.
