PIQUA — An accused thief got into a struggle with a Walmart security officer this afternoon, then took off running.
The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Jah D. Batdorf, was caught sometime after 5 p.m. in a field not too far from the East Ash Street store, but not before eluding officers for 30 to 45 minutes and taking them behind the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Piqua Post.
According to Piqua police, Batdorf got into a struggle with a Walmart loss prevention officer in the store parking lot. He fled before police arrived, running behind an OSP post.
Batdorf was booked into the Miami County Jail on suspicion of felony theft and misdemeanor charges of underage possession of alcohol and resisting arrest.
