— A woman was dead for about six hours before she was discovered in the backseat of a vehicle by a passer-by on Thursday afternoon in Springfield, according to police.
The deceased woman, 42, was found at about 12:45 p.m. in the 900 block of West Jefferson Street. A cause of death has not been released.

A man told police that he was walking to his detached garage when he noticed the car.
“(He) further stated that as he looked through the window and he observed what appeared to be a body laying across the back seat,” according to a Springfield police report. “Due to the tinted windows, (he) opened the rear passenger side door and confirmed what he saw. (He) immediately contacted law enforcement.”
