Police: Man injects heroin while child in car

UPDATE @ 7:23 p.m.: A 2-year-old boy from Wilmington was strapped in a car seat while the driver was shooting up heroin, according to a Dayton police report.

Police arrested the driver, 27-year-old Blaine Carolan-Stegman, following a traffic stop. According to the police report, drug paraphernalia, a drug needle with possible residue and a methadone medication instruction sheet were found inside the vehicle. Also, the suspect did not have a driver's license.

The child's mother, who was called to pick up her son, said Carolan-Stegman was supposed to be baby-sitting the child while she was at work, and that she had no idea he left the Wilmington area with her child. The mother told police she knew Carolan-Stegman had past drug problems, but thought he was undergoing treatment, according to the report.

Saturday, Sept. 6

UPDATE @ 8:10 p.m.: Blaine Carolan-Stegman, 27, was booked at 6:54 p.m. into the Montgomery County Jail.

He is being held in lieu of $10,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Monday afternoon, according to online jail records.

UPDATE @ 7:21 p.m.: Police say they tried to stop a man after they saw him driving erratically along East Third Street.

The man allegedly injected himself with heroin while he was driving, and there was young boy in the back seat of his car.

Police said the man will be charged with possession of drugs and paraphernalia; child endangerment; and six traffic violations stemming from today's traffic stop.

Also, they said the man had three active warrants for his arrest: two from Dayton and one from Centerville.

A man is in custody after police said he was shooting up heroin while driving with a child in the back seat.

The incident happened shortly before 6 p.m. in the 2800 block of East Third Street.

Police say the man faces multiple charges, and that the child's mother has been called to get the young boy, who was not hurt.
