The clerk who was shot and another employee were in the market, 1035 Linden Ave., when the suspects came in sometime after 10:30 p.m. and appeared to demand money, Beavers said. A struggle ensued and one person was shot.

Investigators are working to determine whether the victim is the store owner. That victim was alert and talking when taken to the hospital, Beavers said. The victim’s condition was not known.

Beavers said both suspects are believed to be about 5-foot-9 and between 165 and 220 pounds, both were wearing denim jeans and each had something white -- either a cloth or a mask -- covering at least part of his face.

One of them was wearing a blue sweatshirt with white tassels and an emblem on his left chest. The other was wearing a black sweatshirt with white tassels.

Both ran south through an alley off Lorain Avenue, Beavers said.

Investigators, including those from the homicide unit and from the violent offenses unit, are working to determine whether any cash was taken.

He said investigators also are working to determine whether one or both of the suspects had guns.

A state patrol helicopter and a K-9 unit were deployed for a time, looking for the suspects. Residents living near the market were told to shelter in place while that search was being conducted.
