2 OVI arrests made at checkpoint in Dayton

UPDATE @ 5 a.m. May 30:

Dayton Police have released the numbers from Friday night’s OVI checkpoint near the intersection of Wayne Avenue and Wyoming Street.

• 532: Vehicles through checkpoint

• 20: Diverted

• 4: Tested for OVI

• 2: OVI Arrests

• 3: Suspended Licenses

• 1: No driver’s license

• 2: Child Restraint

• 1: Temporary no license driver

• 1: Open container

A saturation patrol in the area of the checkpoint also yielded one OVI arrest, one drug arrest, one no driver’s license, and one open container.

UPDATE @ 11: 29 p.m. May 29:

A sobriety checkpoint started at 10 p.m. tonight in the area of Wayne Avenue and Wyoming Street, which was conducted by the Montgomery County OVI Task Force.

A group of people were protesting the checkpoint, holding signs warning drivers “Police ahead, turn now.”

A group of Esther Price workers were protesting the demonstrators, saying the company received negative phone calls because police set up equipment in the parking lot ahead of the checkpoint.


Two OVI checkpoints will happen in the area tonight.

The Dayton checkpoint starts at 10 p.m. in the area of Wayne Avenue and Wyoming Street, according to police.

The Clark County checkpoint starts at 8 p.m. on Ohio 235 in New Carlisle.

Officers at both locations will also check for seatbelt violations as part of the Click It or Ticket campaign.
