Man sentenced to 4 years in prison for having a gun with felony conviction

DAYTON — A 38-year-old man was sentenced to four years in prison for having a gun after being convicted of a felony.

Gregory Kilgore, a former Dayton resident, has previous convictions that include domestic violence, abduction and carry a concealed weapon, according to the Department of Justice Southern District of Ohio.

In March 2018, Dayton police saw Kilgore sitting inside a parked but running car while they were on patrol.

When approaching Kilgore, they reportedly could smell marijuana.

They searched the vehicle and found marijuana, cocaine, a cocaine/fentanyl mix, a Ruger AR556, three magazines and 57 rounds of ammunition, according to the DOJ.

The case is being prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program that attempts to reduce violent crime. PSN reportedly focuses on enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders while partnering with local prevention and reentry programs.
