Man sentenced in ’15 police chase that kills Springfield woman

A judge sentenced a man in Clark County for killing a woman after leading law enforcement on a chase.

This happened in Springfield in October 2015.

Raymone West will now spend 11 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter after his car jumped a curb, hitting and killing Shannon Gonzalez, 37.

"He did not admit remorse to my knowledge. No,” said Ryan Saunders, assistant prosecutor.

The chase was initiated after an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper noticed West’s tail light was out and tried to pull the vehicle over.

After West’s vehicle jumped the curb, two pedestrians were hit including Gonzalez, a Springfield mother of three, who was pinned under the car.

"He's a drug dealer so inherently with that criminal activity comes risk not only from other drug dealers fleeing from police officers,” Saunders said. "Get your education, stop living on the streets and stop dealing drugs."

West is being held in a federal prison outside of Youngstown. He’s also serving a sentence on federal drug charges for selling heroin.
