A 35-year-old Dayton man is facing a possible charge of rape.

Johnny Edmonds was arrested Sunday night after agreeing to be questioned by police. Dayton Police detectives were expected to present their case to county prosecutors today so formal charges can be approved.

Sgt. Larry Tolpin with the Special Victims Unit said Edmonds is an acquaintance of the victim. She said she was visiting his residence in the 1900 block of Riverside Drive Saturday night when the alleged rape occurred.

The victim, a 20-year-old female, called 911 early Sunday morning from that residence but didn’t know what street she was on. She then ran from the residence and flagged down a motorist who called 911 for her again, Tolpin said.

The location of Edmonds residence was determined and police attempted to contact him, but he initially refused to come out.

Tolpin said detectives were just finishing a warrant to search the residence when Edmonds surrendered and was taken in for questioning.

He admitted to sexual activity with the victim but said it was not coerced or forced, according to police.

Tolpin said the evidence indicated otherwise and Edmonds was arrested and booked into jail.
