Hair brush used as gun in Dollar General robbery

UPDATE @ 9:10 a.m.: Aaron Hoschar, 36, was identified as the suspect in the Dollar General robbery.

Hoschar is in jail now on one charge of aggravated robbery, a second-degree felony, according to jail records.

A cashier at the store said he entered, and demanded money. She said he was holding an object, and his hand was wrapped in a white towel or sheet. She said she believed it was a gun at the time, according to a police report.

She said after he ran out of the store, she yelled out that someone had just stolen money. Another employee chased after him, caught up with him in a yard, grabbed him by his shirt and recovered most of the cash, according to the report.

That woman later told police she thought the man had just shoplifted when she ran after him, and she did not know he might have had a gun, the report states.

Police spotted Hoschar walking onto a porch on Fillmore Street and took him into custody without further incident, according to the report.

UPDATE ON AUG. 12. Police arrested the suspect with the assistance of a woman who chased after the robber.

Police said the suspect is a desperate heroin addict who used a hair brush wrapped in cloth to make it look like a gun, police said.

Though no gun was present, the suspect could be charged with aggravated robbery as if he did use a gun.

INITIAL STORY ON AUG. 12:

The Dollar General on Wayne Avenue was reportedly robbed at gunpoint this afternoon.

Initial reports indicate the store at 1431 Wayne Avenue was robbed at gunpoint around 2:30 p.m. Police are looking for the suspect.
