Former OHSAA referee’s teen sex case dismissed in Miami County

TROY — Miami County prosecutors dismissed a rape charge Friday against a Troy man and former Ohio High School Athletic Association official days before his trial was to begin.

Prosecutor Tony Kendall said a new case will be pursued against 53-year-old Henry Lucas, but Kendall declined further comment Friday, saying he would have more to say next week.

The case against Lucas was dismissed after prosecutors Friday filed a motion to continue next week’s trial, saying one of the prosecutors in the case was unavailable and on leave due to unforeseen circumstances.

Common Pleas Judge Christopher Gee denied the motion to continue, saying in a written decision it was “not well taken.” The case initially was scheduled for trial in December 2017 then continued to dates in February, April, July and next week.

He had pleaded not guilty for the trial that was scheduled for Sept. 25 and 26 in Gee’s courtroom.
