— The aunt of a woman born and raised in Springfield who was killed in the Dayton shooting Sunday is asking the community to pray.
Debra Brooks, the aunt of Monica Brickhouse, attended a vigil Monday night in downtown Springfield and asked the community to pray for her family during this difficult time.
“She was my sister’s only child,” she said. “(Brickhouse) had one son who she left behind. I want everyone to pray. Pray for our community and for our families because it hurts. It’s going to be a while and it’s going to take God.”
Also, funeral arrangements have been set for Brickhouse. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m Aug. 10 at Greater Grace Temple in Springfield. Arrangements are by Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, in Dayton.
The Springfield News-Sun spoke with longtime friends of Brickhouse who said she grew up in Springfield and graduated from South High School. A background check shows Brickhouse moved to Virginia but had since moved back to the area in June 2018.
She was living in Dayton at the time of the shooting, according to the background check.
