Dog charges at police, officer fires shot

A dog charged aggressively at police early this morning, and was shot by an officer.

It happened around 1:30 a.m. today, when officers went out to investigate a break-in on Seibert Avenue.

Roger Wax Junior said his son let their 2-year-old pit bull, named Blue, out and the dog ran at officers standing on the sidewalk in front of their home.

The bullet grazed the dog in the chest area, and it ran back to the house. The family was taking the dog to the vet this morning.

Officers were on the sidewalk using a police canine to track possible suspects who broke into a storage room of a house in the 800 block of Seibert Avenue. They were able to track the suspects for about two blocks.

"It could have been a lot worse for the officers that were involved," said Officer Nick Bell. He added, "The dog itself could have been killed."

The owner was issued a summons into court for failure to control the animal.
